Due to a change in personal circumstances, Paul Madden stepped down from the East Galway Gas Plant Concern Group last week. We, the members of the group, would like to express our sincere thanks to Paul for his incredible work as our Chair and spokesperson over the past six months. Since the shocking news of a gas plant and battery energy storage system being proposed between Portumna and Killimor, Paul has been a strong and dedicated voice for our community.

We recognise that this is a long-term process, likely to span years, and that our group will see members come and go during this time. Though Paul has now left our group, we are deeply grateful for his leadership and dedication during this critical time. As a group of committed parents and volunteers, with the support of experts and the wider community, we remain intent on stopping this project, which could have serious and lasting consequences for our area.

Our current focus is on reviewing the appeal lodged by Lumcloon against Galway Council’s decision to deny the battery energy storage system. We are working closely with members of the wider community, legal and planning experts, to continue to safeguard our families, our environment and our future. As always, the committee can be contacted by direct messaging us or emailing eastgalwaygpcg@gmail.com.

Sincerely,

The East Galway Gas Plant Concern Group
